VC (Constricting Type Clutches and Brakes)

Torque capacities up to 13,877,000 lb-in (1.567.000 Nm).Torque capacities up to: 13,877,000 Ib·in 1567.000 N·m Airflex VC element assemblies are designed and built for severe clutching and braking applications on heavy duty equipment. Their high torque ratings permit use of smaller diameter units which lowers contact velocity on high speed applications. Ventilated construction permits passage of cooling air, to rapidly dissipate heat from the friction shoes. Torque is transmitted from the side plates of the elements through torque bars to the friction shoes.

Used on paper and pulp mills, grinding mills, marine propulsion, metal forming machinery, and oil field machinery.

Designed for severe clutch and brake applications.

  • Unmatched for high starting loads and sustained slippage where heat is generated.
  • Ventilated construction permits passage of cooling air to dissipate heat.
  • High torque rating permits smaller diameters, which lowers contact velocity.
  • Torque is transmitted from the side plates through torque bars to the friction shoes.
  • The air tube is replaceable.
  • Pressurizing the actuating tube forces the friction shoes to engage the outside diameter of a cylindrical drum.
  • Leaf springs in the torque bar cavity retract the friction shoes.
  • Torque is dependent upon the applied pressure and rotating speed.
  • Catalog ratings are 75 psi (5,2 bar), maximum recommended pressure is 125 psi (8,6 bar).
  • Available in 22 sizes, identified by the drum diameter in inches.
  • Two different friction-lining widths are available for each size drum diameter.
  • Drums range from diameters of 11.5 inch (292 mm) to the largest 66 inches (1,676-mm).
  • Most sizes can be bolted together forming a dual unit with twice the torque capacity.
  • Can be dismantled on the shaft to gain access to all component parts for easy servicing.
